Tax Free system in Russia

The State Duma passed a law on the introduction of tax free in Russia.

The State Duma passed a law on the introduction of tax free in Russia. According to the law, citizens of foreign countries can return VAT. Unfortunately citizens of the Eurasian Economic Union countries (Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan) can not claim for VAT return.

So from all of your purchases that are more than 10,000 rubles you can get 18% back if you claim for the VAT return. The tax free operator might charge you for their services though.

Although you will not receive the compensation if you buy excisable goods. The final list will be formed by the government soon. It will also specify the list of cities where you can apply for the tax return. Now I assume that these will be Moscow, St. Petersburg and Sochi.

They say the system will start working in October 2018. Can’t wait!
